簡單介紹一下比利·喬爾與哥倫比亞的第一張專輯是《Piano Man》，發表於1973年。盡管銷量一般，主打歌《Piano Man》卻成為了他的招牌歌曲，幾乎所有的演唱會結尾曲都用上了這首歌。1977年推出專輯《The Stranger》獲得巨大的商業成功，其中有四首歌曲打上“告示牌排行榜”前25位，包括：《Just the Way You Are》、《Movin' Out（安東尼之歌）》、《Only the Good Die Young》和《She's Always a Woman》。這是比利的第一張排行榜十大專輯，它被認證有多白金的銷量，並達到排行榜第二位，成為哥倫比亞唱片最暢銷的專輯。
