Every three/four years, we have to thoroughly clean and restain our deck. It is a very tiring job. We dread about it every time, but we still have to do it if we want our deck to last.
The job normally takes a couple of weekends, with deck cleaning takes the majority of the time.
Step 1, Sweep the deck.
Step 2, Clean the deck with pressure washer and deck cleaning product. We have been using DeckBrite. It works good most of the time. For really dirty spots we have to go over them a second time.
Step 3, After the deck is thoroughly cleaned and dried, and there won't be any rain for at least 24 hours, and temperture is right (between 50 and 90F), we can start staining the deck. We use DuraStain Semi-Transparent Stain, and Dave prefers to use brush to apply the stain. Some people says it is better than using a roller. Who knows? I just know it takes a long time to brush the whole deck.
1. Look at the difference between restained section and the old section.
2. All done.
