Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the cancellation of the Department of Defense’s ties with Columbia beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, arguing that Columbia, the Ivy League, and “similar institutions” are “woke breeding grounds of toxic indoctrination” in a Friday video posted on X.
Friday’s announcement will also affect Columbia’s Ivy League peer institutions—Brown University, Princeton University, and Yale University—the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Canada’s Queen’s University among others.
