anyone could share opinion about life in Derby?

Hi I am in a discussion phase with a UK company located in Derby for a position there.

Since I have never been in England, so would like to seek some advice from friends here:

- how is the housing cost for 2 or 3 bedroom apartment? apartments there normally furnished or only come with fridge and stove?
- how is the primary education there? I have two kids - 8 and 6 years old. How do you feel about the schoold there - both private and public. My kids are now in Canada and we are generally happy with the public schools here.
- how about living expense and life style in general
