Your experience is very common. The housing inventory in Houston is down to 4 month's supply. It is mainly a seller's market. Buyers don't believe it until they get some first-hand experience.

Recently every house my clients wanted received multiple offers. The most extreme one received 26 offers within 2 weeks. One house was on the market for half a day and received 3 offers.

You can look for newly listed HUD, Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac foreclosures, they usually are reserved for owner occupant for the first xx days.
