SGEN's ADC technology and IMGN's TAP technology are very unique antibody conjugating proprietary technology with great IP position. SGEN's SGN-35 will be on accelerated approval for relapsed or refractory hodgkin's lymphoma. Accelerated approval by FDA means FDA will grant the approval of the drug based on phase 2b data while FDA will ask SGEN to run confirmatory phase 3 trial. The phase 3 data is almost a sure thing for SGEN as there is no reason to believe that SGN-35 will fail given its excellent efficacy data. The temperatory dive of stock was due to the high expectation that the drug will be completely approved by FDA without an additional trial. SGEN has collaboration with Genentech/Roche, Daiichi Sankyo, GSK, Tekeda et al. It has multiple tricks in the bucket. SGEN management wants to remain independent and let's hope so (it will be next Genentech) or let's not hope so (as it might be bid by big pharma).
IMGN situation is very similar, it's T-DM1 collaboration with Genentech?Roche is going extremely well and the phase 2 data is extremely impressive. Roche is expected to file for market approval in mid-2012. It has other collaboration with Amgen, Bayer, BIIB, Novartis et al though the collaboration studies are generally less advanced that those by SGEN.
another attractive biotech with proprietary BiTE antibody platform, it has collaboration with Medimmune, Saofi, Boehringer Ingelheim et al. The most advanced collaboration is in phase 2 and this company is less matured as SGEN and IMGN. Let's see how its technology can pan out.
I also like HGSI, which has Benlysta approved by FDA and EMA in SLE. This is the first approved drug for SLE in more than 20 years. GSK, its global collaborator will eventually buy this company with no doubt.
Good biotechs with Ab technology is a great buy. Remember BMs bought Medarex 2 years ago with a 100% premium.
I love these 4 companies and I am testing my patience for 100% return in 2 years.
