I just read your story, and here is my way. though my way is too later for your son, just to share a little of my experience. :-) my son is 5.5 years older now, I began to introduce simple game to him half year ago. at first he likes the game very much,  I set a limit of 10 mins for him but he will be bery angry when the time is out. I insist the rule every time and tell him how harmful the game is if he played longer. Now he still play game 10-20 mins each day, but he will ask my allowance before he play, and when I say stop, he will stop playing. I am hoping that to let my son know how to control himself early, he will be much easier to control himself later.
