BTW, I think the reason is mostly

due to our lack of the tradition of abstract thinking after Qin. There were some marvelous works pre-Qin. Unfortunately, they were push to the corners, covered by dusts, and left out of education systems after 罷黜百家，獨尊儒術. It may take 3 or 4 generations to get our education to the par of western education in this specific area, if we are devoted to do it.
