Political affiliation is not uniform across all fields of medicine: 

• Republican-leaning specialties:
  • Surgeons (67% Republican in one analysis)
  • Anesthesiologists (65% Republican)
  • Urologists (62% Republican)
  • Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and other procedure-oriented specialties tend to lean Republican.
• Democratic-leaning specialties:
  • Pediatricians (over two-thirds Democrat)
  • Psychiatrists (over two-thirds Democrat)
  • Infectious disease specialists
  • Internal medicine, geriatrics, endocrinology, and oncology also have a majority of registered Democrats.
