nationality--
- Contact the U.S. embassy or consulate in the country where you intend to live to schedule an appointment
- Review and acknowledge the Department of State's information on loss of nationality
- Attend at least one in-person interview with a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer
- Prepare the required documents and renunciation forms, including DS-4080
- Pay the fee, which is currently $2,350 but could increase in the future
- Obtain State Department approval
- File your final tax return
