pretax 401 vs. ROTH 401K

pretax 401:  the contribution is tax free, but the principal and gains are taxed at withdrawal.

ROTH 401K:  the contribution is after-tax, you pay tax now, but the principal and gains are not taxed at withdrawal. 

THere are other differences, you need to do research on your own.
