Is mt baker park area convenient for Seattle visit?

Hi, I'll be visiting Seattle with two kids in summer and am looking at a rental place near mt baker park. Is it convenient and safe to live in this neighborhood? It will be our first stay there. I'm planning to get the city passs. Thanks. Or can you recommend a hotel that's safe, convinient and not too expensive ?
