Perhaps few realize that the centennial of the 1st US NP (1972, Yellowstone) started the World Heritage Sites of UNESCO, initiated by R. Nixon. Today we have over 740 WHS, including about 19 in USA, of which 12 are found in US NPs...
BTW, Capital Reef became a NP in 1971.
