Life, provided by you, has been too easy and

comfortable for him. He lacks the will power to push forward, but looks for easy fixes and path with the least resistance.

Let him realize that your support will eventually cease. He'd better use the remaining time to ready himself for the jungle that is ahead of him. He might think he is getting away with not taking responsibility for himself, but he'll pay that price sooner or later.
