Money is NOT everything.
China has made great stride in economical development in the past 30 years, however at a huge environmental and humanitarian cost. Chinese government is the richest in the world because of the high taxes on Chinese citizen. While the luxurious goods consumption in China tops the world, hundreds of millions of Chinese live in poverty. Being a mainlander myself, I don't think there is much to brag about the achievement of China and I don't think it is sustainable. I just hope when the crisis hits, the impact is not tragic.
In comparison, Taiwan and Hong Kong are going down a very different path. Their development maybe slower but better balanced and paced. Both places will do better in the long run.
