Silivri Prison in European Turkey sits on over 250 acres and houses 10,000+ inmates is the largest prison in the world. In the United States, Louisiana State Penitentiary, or “Angola” as it’s also known by is the oldest state penitentiary still in operation with over 5,000 inmates.

But the country’s biggest jail system with the population of a small college and 700 million dollar annual budget is Los Angeles County jail. With over 17,000 inmates on average covering over 4,000 square miles and seven buildings, and 90% of population being gang affiliated; my man says, “if you can survive doing time in LA county then you can survive doing time anywhere.” Jail and prison is run by strict politics according to race convict code. LA is no exception.
