民以衣食為天- Indian Fusion Delight
I picked Saturday's dinner venue from Yelp. Serving contemporary Indian cuisine, it is a solid 4.5 stars on Yelp. I was full of expectation yet with a bit of trepidation given our last experience with the equally highly rated vegetarian Thai restaurant. - 民以衣食為天- Vegetarian Thai Experience
When we got there, it was clear that the place was converted from a house, which lends it an air of intimacy. The decor is dominated by the gold and dark maroon tones of the wall paper. My hu*****and joked that it must be imported from India.
Yet unlike some other Indian restaurants we have been to, the decor is not overly ornate and very fitting for its contemporary theme.
We were sitting by a window. Though the view was not particularly spectacular, it did have a bit of charm to it.
This is nectarine dipped in butter, complimentary of the chef..
Never dipped any fruit in butter, but it turned out to be a good combination in this case, smooth and refreshing.
The appetizer we ordered was one of the specials of the day - Hamachi tuna
It was very tasty and fresh with a hint of Indian spices, which, to me, was an unusual combination.
My hu*****and's entree - wild boar cooked in a traditional sauce of ginger, fennel almonds served with saffron bread.
We both loved it, especially the sauce for me.
Not too heavy yet with all the Indian spices one would expect..
The minute I saw the word "dosa" on the menu, I knew that's what I would like for a very simple reason. When I was in graduate school, I had an Indian roommate. We neither were gourmet cooks nor cooked much. However, there was one thing I remember she could make and delicious. The name, as I remember, was dosa.
The chef added his own interpretation of this classic Indian fare. What's inside the wrap were smoky eggplant, peanuts and goat cheese. The result was delicious. My hu*****and liked it as well.
We concluded our dinner with this desert.
It's a warm date and walnut cake.
When the check came, it was presented in this beautiful box, and I found the pen for signing the receipt equally pretty. Small yet very unique touch.
My hu*****and gave it 4 stars, and we deemed this place as a keeper.
To follow the recipe I set out in my opening blog, here is one of the outfits I wore to work during the week. Top is from Anthropologie, jeans is the Lucky Brand, shoes are Kenneth Cole and the copper cuff/collar necklace were brought back from our Sante Fe trip earlier this year.
This second one was a weekend wear. Top - Forever 21, jeans - Rich & Skinny, shoes - Cole Haan, and scarf - Ann Taylor.
Thanks for your time. Hope you have enjoyed my story.
