In the office, they use light/laser to acitvate

the whitening gel to bleach the teeth, the whitening process is faster than the take home one. :)) It takes about an hour. They use higher concertration of bleaching agent( hydrogen perioxide) The whitening gel you took home probably is Carbamide Perioxide with lower concentration of HP, less irritation.
