Source: Sixers and Rockets Agree In Principle To Jeremy Lin Deal
Liberty Ballers has learned that Philadelphia and Houston have a deal in place to send guard Jeremy Lin to the Sixers.
While the NBA is in a holding pattern until LeBron James decides where he will play this upcoming season, the Sixers have done some work behind the scenes. A source tells Liberty Ballers that the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia have agreed in principle to send point guard Jeremy Lin to the Sixers, as well as a first round pick.
Philadelphia's interest in a trade for Lin was first reported several days ago by ESPN's Marc Stein and LB's own Jake Fischer.
Word of which first round pick the Rockets would be trading, whether their own or theNew Orleans Pelicans' 2015 first round pick acquired in the Omer Asik trade, is unknown. Lin, 25, is due $14.89 million in 2014-15, yet holds a cap hit of just over $8.37 million. In 71 games with the Rockets last year, Lin averaged 12.5 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the floor.
In order to sign a player like Chris Bosh to a maximum level contract, Houston's best bet is to unload Lin's expiring deal to clear the sufficient cap space. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Bosh would accept Houston's max contract offer if James opts to sign with Cleveland instead of Miami. However, Chandler Parsons' signed offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks complicates the situation.
Houston has just three days to match the offer sheet, but if Bosh choses to sign with the Rockets, he will have to do so before they can match Parsons' offer. Regardless of whether James continues to drag his feet, the 30-year-old big man will have to make a decision sooner rather than later.
For Sixers fans, they can only hope that choice lands Bosh with the Rockets, thus sending the Lin trade into motion
