a type of architecture. The original quality in any man of imagination is 
imagery. It is a thing like the landscape of his dreams; this sort of world 
he would like to make or in which he would wish to wander; the strange flora 
and fauna of his own secret planet; the sort of thing he likes to think 
about. This general atmosphere, and pattern or structure of growth, governs 
all his creations, however varied.

今天閱讀到這段文字非常有感觸。它讓我想起了繪畫的時光。在美國大學裏學畫兩
年，覺得是人生很重要的一件經曆；因為它幫助我走出童年時畫長腿鳥的陰影，更
重要的是它打開了一個self-discovery的旅途。

我從小對國畫或傳統藝術就沒有什麽感覺，譬如，以前看著鮮活的蝦子從舅外公蘸
滿墨汁的手指裏誕生，我對他的手指的好奇遠超過對水墨畫得意境的喜歡。

對傳統的視覺沒有強烈的感覺應該是天生的，就像我天生會被現代或當代藝術容易吸
引產生共鳴。Chesterton所說的夢境，也許是文學的表達方式，或許，就是同時代
裏的弗洛伊德的潛意識，或許，更深一點就是榮格所說的無意識。

在這樣的情形裏，如果強製性地學習栩栩如生，或逼真，其實是對本性的一種折磨。
就像一個人不得不用一種自己不喜歡的方式去違心地表達自己。而，這種違心裏會
激發出沉默，或，故意忽略，或反抗。這就是陰影。

直到有一天拿起刷子或調色刀，我感受到激情。在tenderness and aggression之間
的湧動找到了一個出口，傾瀉，而尋找到適合自己的表達方式。
