You probably need to turn off the VR

The VR is adjusting at about 1/500s rate.  When you are shooting above that such as 1/800, the VR actually make your picture blur.

Also, the 70-200mm is a great lens but it is not that great at 200mm. 

So,you capture many great moments but most of these photos are not sharp.  Almost like you have a teleconvertor on. 

Since you could afford a D3, it will be good to get a 220, 328 or 428.
