GOP definitely lost a large portion of . . .

young voters.  I voted for o8 but also voted for the moderate GOP congressman (he lost) in my district.  My two daughters in colleges have a big fight with me about my voting for the GOP congressman.  They said most of their friends at schools voted for o8 and democrates, primarily based on social issues.
