Origin

I think its origin is in the New Testament where the Samaritan woman gave Jesus water.

I could be wrong but the point is that when learning a word or phrase it helps to know where it comes from. So when you are talking with an Orthodox Jew who hates Christ you may or may not want to use this phrase.
