After winning a couple of top prizes in math contests in my years of junior high schooling, I shifted my emphasis to Chinese/Ancient Chinese and English in my senior high.

Rule I: Teachers are not very important in what you learned; the books you read are.

Rule II: You do not care about your Chinese if you live in an English-speaking world.
