Do I have to learn how to swim prior to diving?

I know I'm asking a trashy question, because even I know how to swim but have no beach to go :(

Snow capped hills, snow crested houses;
snow covered roads, and snow coated pedestrians...
nearly 5-month-long gleaming sparkly white is our town's specialty. Nowhere can dive~~
