APAD: My cup runneth over

Meaning:

I have more than enough for my needs.

Background:

This expression derives from the Bible, Psalms 23:5 (King James Version):

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou

anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

It signifies abundance and overflowing blessings. It means having more than

enough, experiencing contentment, and feeling grateful for the abundance of

good things in one's life, whether material, emotional, or spiritual.

Something didn't add up in the Bible story. It seemed either David was blessed

and still holding old grudges or he was short-changed and deluding himself.

If the former, he would be an ingrate. He was wont to invoke God but in fact no

holier than his foes.

In the latter, his cup was nowhere near full yet, but he felt so blessed that

were he in China, he would've claimed the Mandate of Heaven. I'd say: "Take it

easy, bro. We could all use a little extra."
