I am not sure. Useful idiot is not equal to useful innocent,

as I see it. They are more useful. They could be (highly) educated, able, smart, with degrees, or even with achievements. But they are still tools, machines, or instruments, highly useful, but not yet qualifiable to be a human with a soul. In this sense, I guess Lenin very likely got it first.
