《The Rose》是由Amanda McBroom創作於1978年，由Bette Midler在其領銜主演的《The Rose》(歌聲淚痕)中作為片尾曲首唱，Amanda特別為她配的合聲。影片推出後，獲得了很高的評價，讓Bette Midler奪得了該年度「最佳流行樂女歌手」的格萊美獎，另外，由於演技精湛，她不僅被提名角逐奧斯卡，更奪得「最佳女演員」和「年度最佳新人」等兩座金球獎。

Bette Midler，一位影歌雙棲的女星。擅長演誇張、嬉鬧的喜劇，然而隻要聽過她唱的《The rose》你很難想象這樣一位女醜角形象的演員，竟能唱出如此深情動人的歌。

《The Rose》這首感人至深的歌曲多年來始終深受喜愛，除在1979年的電影《The Rose》(歌聲淚痕)中作為主題曲，由Bette Midler首唱發行，並奪得了白金單曲外。影片《Napoleon Dynamite》（大人物拿破侖）(2004)也使用了此曲，此外高畑勳的作品《おもひでぽろぽろ》（歲月的童話）(1989)的片尾曲“愛は花、君はその種子”亦是由這首歌曲改編的，由はるみ(北村春美)演唱。平井堅在專輯“Ken's Bar”中也翻唱過這首歌。 其作者Amanda McBroom也錄製了一個版本，感覺很不相同。後來相繼有多個當紅歌手爭相翻唱，包括紅遍全球的美國天才少女LeAnn Rimes，超人氣組合Westlife,英國走紅女歌手Natalie Imbruglia，港台老將林憶蓮與齊豫、黃鶯鶯，小天後蔡依林，新生力量阿桑，獨立樂團蘇打綠，更有日本唱功見長的矢野真紀和本平井堅，日本聲優高垣彩陽在專輯《たからもの》中收錄了《The Rose》的翻唱，還有日本的女歌手兼聲優手嶌葵(Aoi Teshima) 也翻唱過這個版本，所有這些版本各具韻味。 最近日本的一部由真實故事改編的特殊的愛情故事《生命的最後一個花嫁》也用了這首歌（由日本創作型女歌手JUJU演唱，收錄在她2009年4月29日發行的single《明日がくるなら》中），用在去婚禮的路上，患癌症的女主人公望向車外。歌聲裏，勉勵完成的婚禮中的痛與幸福，飄進人心。
