Persistence is the ability to stick with something. 

Unfortunately, lack of persistence is one of my characteristics. I am easily interested in something, 

and then I would purchase the related tools, the materials and sometimes even register the related class. That includes playing guitar, learning sketching,  cooking, playing piano, etc. .

But my interest on the subject is going to fizzle out very soon. 

 

None of above is excused. 

 

Fortunately, the only exception I could recall is my journey of studying USMLE. I remembered clearly that when I said I wanted to be a doctor in the US, the answers included mainly the following:

"That required very good communication skills!"

"You need to be very good at English."

"Green card is a must. "

"The exams are very hard and tedious. Are u sure you could make it?"

"I heard of so many failed cases. "

"What if you match the residency in Alaska?"

 

I had nothing they mentioned above.  I even barely knew the medical terms in English as what I had learned were almost all in Chinese. But hey, it might save me about $300,000 tuition fee  and expenses if I made it.  

 

I googled the Internet and found the learning materials and I even found several study partners. 

We formed a study group and studied together about one to two hours a day. 

It was very interesting as we took turns to read books and discuss the content if not clear. 

The whole process was full of fun.  Smoothly, all of us in my small group succeeded in this journey. 

It was amazing as I had no persistence on almost everything. Now looking back, the secret was to study with others.
