I Had a Date Today (寫作練習）一點都不甜蜜，為啥呢？

When I saw a lot of brown and cone-shaped things on my dinner table this morning I thought they were a kind of nuts, and beside those things there were 2 packs of longans which are my favorite fruits, so I just left the cone-shaped things alone and ate a few longans. Later on I was told that the cone-shaped things are dates. To be honest, I had never seen fresh dates in my life, so out of my curiosity, I took one bite out of one of them , but to my disappointment, I felt like I was tasting a piece if cotton which was tasteless.It was not sweet at all. I was wondering how come the dried ones can taste as sweet as sugar. Anyway, following the old rule of waste not, want not, I finished the rest of that date, not the pit though--did't want to get choked  to death before having some mooncake...
