I have not read the book, and can't agree or disagree with you. Just pick a few bricks while I was reading it:

help caring -> help care

have lead -> have led

failed being -> failed at being

in hope of a (the) dreamy, romantic and warm last moment.

applied at places -> applied to places (?)

taken the same moves -> made the same moves
