Interesting! It reminded me of a story:

 

One of my friends (an American) told me her story:

When she was growing up, she always heard people say:

“See you later, alligator,”

(with the response)

“After a while, crocodile.”

 

She always thought that It was “See you later, alligator; after a while, crack a dial.” till she was twenty years old.

 

So “crack a dial” is a mondegreen of “crocodile”.
