支持率 means nothing to geopolitics. The Japanese thought they

 

 

had leveage/deterence over China:  the presence of American force deployed in Japan.    

支持率 does not stop China's retaliation however.  How durable and ferocious Japan stands in the confrontation remains to be seen.
