"Tony" and "Anthony"

剛才看到一個電郵回信， 他說他叫“Anthony"， 不叫”Tony“。 唉， 他（華裔）已在這裏工作了二十來年了， 我叫他Tony， 他這麽給我回信。

When I first arrived here to begin my Ph.D. program, I was a bit confused. My supervisor often mentioned a professor he knew well, Anthony Thompson. He sometimes referred to him as "Tony," and I didn't initially realize it was the same person. It took me a while to understand that "Tony" was simply a nickname for Anthony.
