The following is all I know (so no follow ups please):
(1) If your APE is an image file for the entire album, then you have to break them up with Monkey or any software uitable at your disposal. The individual tracks should be in WAV.
(2) If your APE is a single track, you convert it to WAV if your MP3 converter doesn't support APE.
Once you've had the tracks in WAV, you can use LAME, or any software that calls the LAME.dll (.exe) for conversion. You have to use LAME because it is "the one" (the same meaning as in movie The Matrix) to use.
