楊先生對中國物理屆的一個少有人提及的幫助

在上世紀八，九十年代，楊先生邀請了不少中國學者到石溪大學訪問/學習/工作

Academic Exchange Committee with China’ at SUNY Stony Brook to sponsor Chinese scholars to study at the school for one year. In 1981 … he … established the CEEC scholarship … to support personnel from Chinese universities and research institutes as visiting scholars at Stony Brook. By the early 1990s, a total of more than 80 Chinese scholars have successfully gone to the United States with the support of this scholarship, and most of them have returned to China on time to serve in their original units.

這些學者後來很多成為中國物理屆的棟梁，我記得的有

穀超豪，楊福家，葛墨林，蘇汝鏗，趙光達，吳詠時，陳天倫，孫菖蒲等

他們回國後分散在全國各地的重點高校和研究所（如北京大學、清華大學、南開大學、中國科學院各研究所、複旦大學、南京大學等），不僅在科研上取得了成就，更關鍵的是承擔起了人才培養和學科建設的重任，將現代物理學的火種播撒開來。
