You should let school deal with the whole thing

When you received the wife's email, you should let
the school deal the issue instead of trying to deal the
"cheating" issue yourself. If you don't require all
students to show proof, it would be unfair to demand this student to do so. I suggest you to seek some advice
so you don't make the problem worse.
