He had a contract and you have to see what it says to determine your action. Most of the professionals are employed at will nowadays, meaning that you can be fired for any reason or no reason. Local labor law will not tolerate bad reason, such as retaliation, but the petitioner will have the burden to approve that in the court. That's where most of the people have difficulty with.
