Helps needed from fellows!

Hi,

I've just received the notices from INS to make appointments for fingerprint and biometrics, the earliest time I was able to schedule the appointment is on Aug 20th. Does that mean before that date I will not be able to get my travel parole and work permit? Do they process my file while waiting for the fingerprint to be done?
Oh, BY the way, I am applying Greencard through my hubby, he's an american citizen. I am now under H-1, is it safe to stop my h-1 now or do I have to wait for the actual greencard?
Should I reschedule the appointment at a different place that might have earlier available dates?

Please offer some helps, if anyone had the same experiences before. Thanks a lot.
