I am in USA. Here is how it done.

If you are a new client (not established) with large amount of money in and out. Bank can hold your check for up to 4 weeks until it clears.

1. the first $100 will be avaliable for withdraw within the fist 24 hours.
2. Remaining can be use for transactions no more than 4 weeks.

Bank can hold your check for XXX time depend on the regulation.
