Help! Part time worker injury???

My niece is a 18 year old high school student in Michigan.
She recently worked as a part time worker at meat department in a Meijer (A big grocer store). Last week, she cut her figure badly when she cut the meat. Meijer said they would NOT take care of her injury.

Doe anybody know the rule for th part time worker in Michigan?
