Let's say you have many dependants, pay state tax, etc. Also have house income above ~120K.

You calculate a tax A by take out the tax you paid and 3100 X dependants. You may need use form 6251 to calculate AMT B. Pay the higher one of A & B . When do B, the tax and dependants are added back.

Have more dependants may not help you in tax.
