Both green card and passport are required!

I did not notice how careful the officer will check the passport (they just swipe it in a machine, but what information they are checking I am not sure). But don't go back to China to renew your passport unless you know someone in Police Bureau. I have tried once, but got into so many troubles and I eventually decided to come back and renew it here. But I don't think your plan for next week is feasible now.
