Legally, you dont need an agent. Practically, you need one for sure.

You are not going to save a penny if you dont have agent. The seller's agent will take all the incentives.

You will be disadvantage at negotiation, inspection, law, escort loan and closing. Hire a real estate attorney is like shooting a bird with a machine gun. It is not practical and over kill. Plus, the purchase agreement is a very first step during a real estate transaction.

Just my personal preference for your consideration.
