Sorry for what haave happened to your kid. My 2 cents:

1. What exactly the brain MRI report say? "Stroke" is just a very general term they gave to you.

2. Once the MRI shows the infarction (I assume), there is NO way to save those brain cells. Plus, even if they could have done perfusion MRI exam to look for salvagible brain (called penumbra), there is no treatment to "save" those brain cells because the time it takes from your kid was found to have decreased movement on left side to the time when the MRI was done was way greater than 6 hours (treatment window).

3. It is also likely that the "stroke" is coincidental because it is rare. The more common reasons are cardiac septal shunt/defect, pulmonary AVM, or other anomaly, etc. Therefore, it is a good time to rule that out.

4. Talk to good rehab people and keep stimulating the left side of the body. Young kid might be able to fully recover.

Good luck!
