ask for usage history

Did you read the meter at any other time? Electricity company owns the line and meter up to the point it enters
your house. Therefore it is free to replace and repair
their part. Ask for the usage history for your house.
If the amount charged is way out of line, you would have
a strong case. Did you take pictures of your meter?
