1. If you think you are pretty stong background for Eb1. Got to do it. Eb1 has Eb1a and Eb1b two types. Eb1b is based on employer and 1a not. If you want to save money, you can do it by yourself.
2. If you don't care about how long you get your GC, you can wait. If lucky, new immigration bill come out this August, EB2 will have big progress. If unlucky, no bill come out, you need wait 2 to 3 years or more to subumit I-485.

I don't understand how strong you have since it seems you get job recently. For EB-1b, you need at least 2 years experience as outstanding research. For Eb-1a, you need get some national award or be a reviewer for journal many times as well as good publication.
