緊急求助，will shoplifting affect the reentry with AP?

one friend is charged with shoplifting for the first time ($70), but he had ordered the airline ticket to visit home in China soon. He planed to come back with Advanced Parole(AP), is there arrest record before going to the court? Can he still come back with AP smoothly? should he continue travelling or not?
In addition, what may be the result? how long is needed to clear the record if paying for the fine and volunteer in the community?
