I do not think so. I have worked for two of the largest US-Sino joint ventures and they all cared very much or they would get fined for this.
It is government law, not company policy. All companies have to strictly follow it.

There are ways around this. But it would be illegal acts in China and I do not want to talk about it here.
Ask them to ask around and I am sure they can find a way to do this.
