Are we Residents for tax and qualify to get EIC?? Thanks!

My family got Green Card in September 2005. Can we tax as the resident for the whole 2005? Are we qualify to get the EIC. In IRS website, they ask you to be a resident for all the year, and I got confused when I check the law items.
